I dream about being somebody who makes a substantial contribution to the lives of people. I dream about being a writer and an entrepreneur. For me it is very important to keep my vision alive.

I have been very lucky to have exemplary role models in my life. My grandfather was a respected college professor and my grandmother was a role model for many women through the charitable works she did. My parents are high achievers, generous and active in the community. Both have doctorates in their field. For me, excellence has never been an option, it’s a requirement.

I firmly believe that you must have a dream and see yourself doing something that awakens passion within. It’s important to use the gifts that you are given. High school left me with very little time to do anything else. However, one day a lady from my community asked if I would like to help with Girl Scouts. I welcomed the opportunity since I enjoy working with children and have been told I have a way with them. Through the years I have worked with several troops creating entertaining events, hosting educational meetings and facilitating character-building games. My dream to make a meaningful contribution manifested itself in this form. I was able to learn so much from the girls and actually, about myself as well. I know that I can only be truly happy if I feel as though I am making a difference in the life of others.

When I go for a vacation or have free time, I like to write. My day is never complete until I have expressed my deepest thoughts and feelings in the written form. Writing gives me a sense of freedom incomparable to anything else I’ve known. Recently, I received the honor of having a story published which has only fueled my desire.

It would be the icing on the cake to have a degree from such a prestigious, extraordinary institution. After all I have a legacy to follow.
