Here is an example of a University of Miami essay

“Being the new kid. For adults it doesn’t seem much like a problem but I hated. New town, new school, and new problems. I was the quiet type anyway. It was hard for me to talk to people in almost any situation. And it’s worse when you’re the new kid. When you see other kids whispering, you know it’s about you. When somebody laughs as you pass by you know they are laughing at you. The first day at a new school what do they do? Make you stand in front of the class, introduce you and then you have to tell something about yourself. Ask any new kid. It’s the last thing they want. This was my 12th time in 9 years but my Dad promised it would be the last for awhile.

Three years have passed since then. I sometimes look back and wonder what I was so afraid of. Maybe it was leaving the comfort of my previous school. But things were the same there, and at the school before that. It seemed like they were whispering behind my back and laughing at me everywhere. Maybe it was my fear that my attempts at friendship would be dismissed and ridiculed. I have developed socially and my fears of conversing with strangers have all but vanished and I find myself self-assured in the endeavors I pursue. Staying in one school for a year allowed me to mull over my lonely lunches and self-esteem issues and with that, a call to action rumbled within me. I did what I should have done long before. And it changed everything for me.

I guess you could say I’m popular now. I have plenty of friends, and everybody know who I am. The new me I attribute to mostly one thing and I would recommend to anybody else in my shoes. My shoes are size 16 by the way. When you are 6ft 8in and 15 years old, you do the only thing that makes sense. Learn to make a hook shot.”
